Joe Miller Ends Fight, Concedes Alaska Race

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

What took you so long, Shmoe?

JUNEAU, Alaska -- Republican Joe Miller is ending his fight over Alaska's U.S. Senate seat, conceding the race to his bitter rival, incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski.

I guess he decided on his own terms how long he'd make a fool of himself. He sure showed us. He's his own ass, er, man.

"Is Sarah Palin toast?"

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Jonathan Bernstein has a splendid piece up about Former Half-Gov Wilty McFadington, that goes a little something like this:

[H]as she made any progress at all?  Yes, she did give at least a couple of Serious Policy Speeches, but I don't get the sense that they got any traction at all, not with all of the tweets and the reality shows and the books stuff with platitudes.  Her fans, of course, never needed convincing, but for the rest -- and, here, I'm really focused on Republicans -- is there anyone who wrote her off as a lightweight who is now giving her a new look because of her speech on the Fed?  I very much doubt it. As for proving herself trustworthy to interest group leaders and Republican politicians, well, I haven't seen any reporting that even hinted at that.  She had some notable good calls in the 2010 contest, such as in the South Carolina gubernatorial race, but just as many bad, or just odd, endorsements. I can't imagine that the Joe Miller fiasco helped, either.

He has much more, and it's all worth a read, right ... here.

VIDEO: GEICO's R. Lee Ermey, appearing on behalf of Toys 4 Tots & USO, slams President Obama

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

Who is this R. Lee Ermey, you ask? What kind of scumbag would show a complete lack of respect for the administration, especially at a USO / Toys 4 Tots event?   Here's your answer:

Ermey spent eleven years in the Marine Corps, Two of which were spent as being a Drill Instructor at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, India Company 3rd Recruit Training Battalion 1965-67, Arrived in Vietnam in 1968 spending 14 months attached to Marine Wing Support Group 17 and 2 tours in Okinawa. He rose to the rank of Staff Sergeant and was medically retired for injuries received. On May 17, 2002 he received an honorary promotion to Gunnery Sergeant (E-7) by Commandant James L. Jones, becoming the first retiree in the history of the Marines to be promoted. Using G.I. Bill benefits, Ermey enrolled at the University of Manila in the Philippines, where he studied drama. Francis Ford Coppola was filming "Apocalypse Now (1979)" in the area and cast Ermey in a featured role. He has since gone on to star or appear in approximately sixty films.

So an ex-Marine, a veteran, took full advantage of G.I. Bill benefits, but called Obama a socialist.

There has been no statement from the USO or GEICO about this, as far as I know.

Hey media, where are you on this one?

VIDEO: I'm Grateful for President Obama

FacebookTwitterRedditDiggStumbleUponTumblrLinkedInPinterestEmailShare

There are times when I am let down by President Obama, but there are so many times when I am grateful, too.

One can be disappointed and/or critical of the president and still support him, want him to succeed, and appreciate what has been highlighted in this video. I had tweeted the "stills" version of the vid a few days ago, and it got a wonderful response.

Let's keep pushing Prez O to do what's best for the country, never give up , keep fighting, and show him we're behind him when he manages to pull off some major accomplishments in the face of a wall of obstruction. Then let's encourage him to improve on those accomplishments when they don't fulfill expectations.

But let's also remember that democracy often requires dissent, we are allowed to disagree with each other (peacefully, civilly, with respect), and protest injustice. We are America, all of us, not just some, not just the wealthy and powerful... all of us.
