2009 GOP: GM Rescue Was “Road Toward Socialism,” “Predictable” Disaster

Think Progress has posted quotes from John Boehner, Richard Shelby, Michael Steele, Jim DeMint, Tom Price, Lamar Smith, and Trent Franks sounding very loud, very scary 2009 alarms about government power grabs, socialism, impending disaster, and utter catastrophe!

Why? Because of the General Motors rescue. Rescued by that evil, intrusive villain, the federal government.

That would be the same evil, intrusive federal government that should expect to see a complete return on its investment within two years.

If this is evil, then let’s push for wickedly heinous:

According to the Center for Automotive Research, “if the government had not invested in the automotive industry, up to 80,000 automotive jobs would have been lost, and General Motors alone would have lost one million units of sales in 2009. Once Chrysler and GM emerged from their ‘orderly’ bankruptcies, the growth of automotive sector employment has been strong, with 52,900 workers added since July 2009. Had GM and Chrysler not successfully emerged, those jobs would have been permanently lost.

Boooo, hisssssss!

Yeah this was wrong, but borrowing a trillion so we can keep the Bush tax cuts is fine. ( I had this talk with a tea bagger and it was like watching Rain Man do who’s on first ).
