CNN takes worst ratings dive in more than 10 years

How’s that reinventiony, new line-uppy thing workin’ for ya?

The network on Monday dipped to its worst nightly prime-time average in more than 10 years. An average of 327,000 total viewers tuned in from 8 to 11 p.m., according to the Nielsen Co. That’s the lowest since May 8, 2000 (326,000).

You know things aren’t going well when CNN is already pre-empting their brand spanking, shiny new “Parker Spitzer” show to allow Anderson Cooper to actually, you know, report news.

Cable news [sic] networks in general need to finally get it through their corporate heads that facts matter, trust matters, hard news matters, accuracy matters, substance matters, investigations matter, and the Erick Ericksons, Glenn Becks, and Pat Buchanans of the world are toxic. Maybe, just maybe, then they’d earn the respect that is currently so beyond their shaky, greedy, ratings-grubbing grasp.

Laffy has a point. If CNN had any confidence in this sparkling, new shiny object they just put in prime-time, they wouldn't just preempt such with things like miner rescues and Senatorial debates from states with no media market, featuring a candidate trailing by 20 points, and yet hosted by one of their own talent. It just wouldn't happen.

Maybe people were more interested in Brett Favre (and his debacle) than they were in Anderson Cooper. No Anderson, that's not a que for you to start sexting.
