Poll-itics: Andy Griffith’s popularity down because of Medicare ad

Andy Griffith reflects on the 45 years of the Medicare program and explains the new benefits under the Affordable Care Act.

Opie would tell his dad that he’s proud of him no matter what, and Aunt Bee would remind him to hold his head high and remember that he’s on the right side of the issues. Just like the old “Andy of Mayberry” show, here it is in black and white:

You know how bad things are for Democratic political figures these days? Even Andy Griffith’s poll numbers have seen a significant decline in the last 2 years.

Our latest North Carolina poll found Griffith at 44/22 in the state for a net favorability of +22. That represents a 25 point decline from June of 2008 when Griffith was at a net +47 (56/9.)

Hey, I take that personally! Little known fun facts: I have loose ties to that show. The late Earle Hagen, who wrote the “Andy Griffith Show” theme (I was a friend of the family), is undoubtedly spinning in his grave. And don’t get me started on Helen Crump (Aneta Corsaut, who I worked with on the TV series “House Calls”).  How about sticking to polls about politicians?  Where’s my pouting chair? But seriously…

I guess defending a successful program that actually helps seniors has become as passe as homespun situation comedies.

He sounds trashed to me. He's a rude old codger that snubs his own hometown.

I live in a small Kentucky town like that, too. We need more Andys around IMO – when I saw this ad I thought, “If Andy says it, it's gotta be gooood” :-)

    1. What a weird poll to take.

    2. What a weird conclusion to reach! Is Griffith really a Dem pol? Is there anything that ties his lower numbers to a health care ad?

Ah Mayberry, I remember several years ago when our city council fired the police chief because he was a drunk and he picked on black residents. Some people who wanted to defend him in council meeting had this woman speak who wanted to say that our town was like Mayberry, and that is what made her want to live here. LOL. Just about every black person there went “there are no black people living in Mayberry”. It was so funny.

    Yep, joined the group.

Laffy, I love that man but in unrelated topic; have you heard of a group on Facebook that is trying to get a “Stephen Colbert Rally” going in CD (10/10/10) called “Restoring Truthiness”?

    Here is the website: http://www.colbertrally.com/

I grew up in a town in NC a lot like Mayberry. Dixiecrats mostly. But basically good people who's major fault was, they learned to think politically with their spinal cord. The good news was, you could point out they were acting like a dip shit, they'd call you a name and walk away. But here's the clincher. They sometimes changed their attitude. Not about you, understand, but what you argued about.

It's slightly off-topic maybe but considering his age, Andy Griffith looks pretty darn healthy. Good news.
