“They’re hiding behind our freedom of religion.” Um, isn’t that the point?

I’m watching MSNBC this morning, minding my own business, when on comes Carl Paladino (see video and Wiki), who Think Progress describes this way:

One of the newest heroes of the Tea Party movement is “outspoken” Buffalo businessman Carl Paladino, a multimillionaire who has railed against “liberal elites.”

Back in April he railed against “liberal elites”. Today he railed against the cultural center and prayer room that is at the center of a firestorm, because it would be built a couple of blocks from Ground Zero.  My previous post explaining why barring it’s construction would be a mistake is here.

What struck me about his laughably irrational punditiocy was this quote (nearly verbatim):

In this case, “they’re gonna hide behind our rights– freedom of religion– hide behind the Constitution.”

How does this guy get himself out the door in the morning? Does he realize what he said? Carl Paladino just condemned the Constitution for being the the supreme law of the United States, the ultimate, top, super duper, ultra, go-to document:

First Amendment: addresses the rights of freedom of religion (prohibiting Congress from establishing a religion and protecting the right to free exercise of religion), freedom of speech, freedom of the press, freedom of assembly, and freedom of petition.

The nerve– the very nerve!– of Americans to “hide behind” the U.S. Constitution and all those freedoms! Why, the founding fathers are turning over in their graves!  Following the laws of the land is a sin! A sin, I say!

That man… is an idiot.

what about all our grandfathers that died on battlefields to ensure that very constitutuion.. to ensure those freedoms that you so easily abbrogate in the emotions of personal loss.

Don't these clowns see what frauds they are? They make me sick. Let's change the constitution so no one but rick white landowners are allowed the protection of the Constitution. All others including non-Christians, women, minorities and any other non white rich men will only have the rights bestowed upon them by rich white men. That is not what our founding fathers wanted and if these rich white men can't read, what in the hell are they doing in such important positions?

They haven't closed the “christian” churches in Austin either after one of theirs flew his plane into the IRS building and killed a worker. In his manifesto the terrorist said he was wanting a “body count” so his views would be heard. But he's not called a terrorist by our media because like McVey, and Eric Rudolf, he was white and non-muslim. If the relatives of the deceased want to surrender their rights, they may but they may NOT surrender others'. Do love how the christians shout to differentiate themselves from the radicals in their faith but refuse to accept that muslim terrorists are a small minority of the Islamic faith.

“…Carl Paladino, a multimillionaire who has railed against “liberal elites.””

Are there no Dems (other than Weiner and Grayson) or Libs or Progressives, that will
rail against “conservative Right Wing extremists”?

…the Dems/Libs/Prog types just seem to curl up and wimper. Sheesh…get a SPINE folks!

What does that have to do with the First Amendment besides nothing?

Dubya/dick are responsible for 9/11, not the Muslims.

A crazy KKKristian bombed the Oklahoma building. Does that mean no KKKristian churches can be built close to that site???

My heart goes out to you, and can't begin to know what you've gone through.
Nor would I ever try to talk you down from your feelings about this. But
this isn't about emotions or resentment or fear. It's about the law and our
    rights as Americans.

The Constitution is the law of the land. Condemning all Muslims for the
horrific deeds of extremists would be like condemning all Christians for the
Tim McVeigh murders and then not allowing a church to be built near the
    Murrah Bldg. site.

We must never allow our sorrow and pain take priority over our
Constitutionally protected rights as Americans. Freedom of religion is one
    of those rights.

I guess you didn't lose your brother and father on 911 like I did.

So many idiots. How do they get away with it?
