Enthusiasm Sinks for Democratic Voters

A new USA Today/Gallup survey finds sobering news for Democrats hoping their supporters will head to the polls in November.

Just 35% of Democratic voters said they were “more enthusiastic than usual” about voting in November. That’s down eight points from May and a precipitous 22-point drop from a similar poll in March. In fact, it’s the lowest level of enthusiasm for Democratic voters since 1998.

With 53% of Republicans saying they were enthusiastic, the GOP now holds an 18-point enthusiasm advantage.

Interestingly, by a 48% to 43% margin, voters prefer the Democrat for Congress. It’s the first lead for Democrats on that measure since January.

On the other hand, it is the third poll in a row that gives the Dems the generic congressional ballot lead.
