Marine biologist Riki Ott was on the Thom Hartmann show discussing BP’s Katrina again. I jotted down what I could. I’ve posted about her previously here.
Here are some paraphrased quotes that I grabbed:
Ott:
I was in a small chartered plane. We were suddenly forbidden to fly over parts of the affected area that we were previously allowed to see. BP is extending the no fly zone. Over American waters? Over American beaches? Why is BP dictating fly zones? Why is the Coast Guard enforcing BP’s wishes? Why is BP pushing President Obama around?
Chemical poisoning is being reported at hospitals, not food poisoning.
Thom Hartmann:
Political interests inside the Obama administration and inside of BP are identical: Minimize the appearance of damage. The “spill” is out of control as is the P.R.
Ott:
The administration is still blocking people from seeing the damage. Woods Hole and NOAA haven’t been over.
We can’t nationalize it. We don’t have separate systems to respond. But Obama can order agencies to do the job.
Hartmann:
Dispersants get absorbed. This is a crime. Dispersants get into DNA, which could affect our children, our grandchildren. Why is big media not investigating? Because of their sponsors? Why isn’t the Obama administration all over these guys? Why aren’t the NOAA vessels patrolling, giving us reports? Why isn’t Woods Hole not down there?
Why has BP determined the no fly zones for planes with cameras?
Who advertises on Wolf Blitzer’s newscasts? On all the shows? A company that builds oil rigs, drilling operations. WE don’t buy oil rigs. Could it be that they don’t want us to know what’s going on?
