Video Essay: The Mysteries of Curling

I can’t be the only person who’s curious about this sport? Reminds me a bit of billiards on ice. More background here.

Curling is just awesome, harder than it looks ( have you heard some of the things said about poor John Shuster?).
I love being in Canada so I can watch it all the time.

I'm one of those who love curling, so this story may be biased, but…
At my local sports pub, a couple of friends and I gather to watch the curling matches and share a pint. Each day we find ourselves explaining the sport to others around us, the various strategies and skills and rules. And the folks become interested, and they've joined us for the afternoon matches. Yesterday, there were about 20 of us cheering, shouting, and/or groaning at the TV.
This is in Arizona; not exactly a curling town. But, needless to say, the owners of the pub have become big fans of curling.

a pass time in my country besides hockey, it looks boring, but its time consuming ones you play it.

    Lololol!

THAT is what I've wasted most of today watching (actually, it put me to sleep for over an hour).

I've got no clue…BUT, just listening to the commentary is hilarious. Do I see a Saturday Night Live show coming?

Of course there was all the drama over the audience…the "unprecedented" noise singing O Canada last night… :-) )))

Curling is more like lawn bowling on ice than billiards, although the whole physics thing comes into play a lot more than in lawn bowls.

And no, that telltale 'crunch' sound is usually not a good thing when your head comes into contact with an immovable object (physics again, I'm pretty sure).

It's not a good thing when you hit your head and it crunches, is it?
Serious klutz here, I put my forehead right on the corner of the desk messing with some wires.
I'm gonna go put some ice on it.

I miss living close to the border, where we got the CBC and they regularly broadcast curling. Nobody calls hockey or curling better than the canucks.
